What is worth our government going in debt over?
I don't think our government should go in debt over anything, but can only for those things that are necessary for the economy. I think its good to spend money wisely and to put that into action ( in order to not go deeper in debt since we already are in so much debt ) would be to spend America's money on the right things. Its hard to decide what is the right thing to invest in and which things to cut investment in. I think that money should be spread evenly between everything that is on the "lower end", such as building roads, bridges, reconstructing school buildings and broken down buildings, and that for more demanding things, such as war or health care, should have more money invested in them. Its hard to say what is most important to put money into, but when it comes down to it, I think people's health and saving people is more important then repaving roads, like the road near our school that didn't even need repairing. It would be different if the road was harmful for people to drive on and caused recurring accidents, then it would be worth the governments money. So I think that if the government is going to invest money in things, they should find whats at the "top of the list" and then work down from there. But as far as going into debt over war, education, health care, repaving roads etc, I don't think the government should ever go into more debt, unless it over all harms America if we don't, because then it would be even harder to out of debt because we would be deeper then we are now, which would end up badly affecting the lives of the people.

I definitely agree with your idea to look at the things that are on the "top of the list" like health care and all. In this, I like how you related the issue to your life with the road that did not need repaving. I also agree that the government should focus on the things that danger the lives of those in society rather than spending money on other things first. Overall, I really liked your blog and I can't wait for the next!

ReplyDeleteI think that you are right. If at all possible, government should be spending far less in order to get out of debt. The difficult part is though, that if you cut spending on things such as repairing roads, you make less work for those construction workers who rely on work from the government to provide for their families. If there is less work, people either get paid less or fired. Ideally the country should decrease the debt, but in my opinion, the best way would not be by cutting costs, but by promoting the economy so that more can be taken from taxes from people making more money than before.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with stephen. I think that there is little that our government should risk going into debt for. Our governments main focus should be to rebuild the economy, so that it can gain revenue through taxes.
